The Nassau County Police Department is using a real-time tool that gives them the data needed to crack down on the opioid crisis. The app is called ODMap. It is federally funded and only available to public safety officials, who enter information about fatal and non-fatal overdoses. The information then helps law enforcement predict patterns and prevent crimes that they say oftentimes go hand in hand.

Now generic signs read "Welcome to Your Town of Hempstead." They no longer have the names of the supervisor or board members. Gillen said this is a one-time cost of $4,600 instead of spending $3,000 every time signs needed to be updated.

The 7-month investigation found that MS-13 was distributing close to $1 million worth of heroin. Singas is a graduate of the Bronx High School of Science, Barnard College, and Fordham University School of Law.
