NJ plan would pay drivers for NYC 'congestion' toll

Some New Jersey lawmakers are turning their ire over New York's plan to charge motorists an additional toll for entering midtown Manhattan into action they say will blunt some of the impact — with out-of-state drivers footing the bill.

New York can move ahead with plan for congestion tolls

Federal officials have given New York the go-ahead to resume preparations to implement extra tolls for vehicles entering Manhattan to reduce congestion. The plan stalled over a lack of guidance from the federal government on the environmental review process. 

California lawmaker wants to decriminalize jaywalking

Assemblyman Phil Ting planned to unveil Assembly Bill 1238, or “The Freedom to Walk Act,” which would decriminalize jaywalking across the state, which many say more negatively affects low-income people who can't pay the fines and people of color who often become targets of the police.
