Storm damaged up to 10 million acres of Iowa farmland

The powerful storm system that roared across the Midwest earlier this week killed at least two people and also caused widespread damage to millions of acres of crops in Iowa, according to officials.

Meteorologist Mike Woods says we are off to another very warm, humid start to the day with a few storms rolling through, even this morning. Today will be partly cloudy, hot and humid again with some showers and storms. There could be some flash flooding today with some of the heavier downpours. Today's high: 88. Expect more scattered showers and storms tonight with mild lows dropping into the low to mid 70s. More scattered showers and storms are expected for the rest of the work week, but we should see cooler, drier conditions by this weekend.

There are also heat advisories posted for the majority of the Tri-State Region with heat indexes expected to reach the mid to upper 90s. We may see some isolated storms firing up in the afternoon in the next couple of days though it looks like most of the storms will hold off until Thursday and Friday. The combination of heat and humidity will be making it feel like we'll be in the mid to upper 90s. This will be happening through Wednesday before we see some relief with the temperatures. Rain chances are fairly minimal for the first few days of this week, but they will pick up toward the end of the week.

Long Island residents take utilities to task after storm response

The lights are finally back on for West Hempstead veteran, Ed Campis, after Tropical Storm Isaias left a path of destruction in his neighborhood on Tuesday. However, he tells Fox 5, relief should have come much sooner.  “Not even Sandy did this much damage,” Campis says.

Power restored, mass transit resumes after outage in Manhattan, Queens

Dozens of blocks in Manhattan were cast into darkness after a power outage early Friday morning. The lights went out at about 5:15 a.m. on the Upper East Side, Upper West Side, and Harlem.
