The parks commissioner played the role of a foolish selfie-snapping victim stuck part on, part below the ice of a not-quite-frozen city pond Tuesday afternoon. He and the parks enforcement officers demonstrated a tandem two-ladder rescue and encouraged all who spend any time near the water this time of year to stay off the ice.

After a 911 call, rescue personnel found the 27-year-old victim with a gunshot wound to the head. He was rushed to Bellevue Hospital but it was too late to save him.

In a pre-planned visit to the U.S. Attorney's Office in Lower Manhattan, Sessions called Tuesday's attack in Tribeca a reminder of threats from terrorists. Sessions seemed to rebut comments from President Donald Trump about how the justice system handles terror suspects.

The driver barreled along the bike path for the equivalent of about 14 blocks and collided with a small school bus. The driver got out and brandished weapons. A police officer with the 1st Precinct shot him. The chaotic incident unfolded just feet from the World Trade Center site.
