The violent clash Friday night on East 82nd Street was between members of the extreme far-right group the Proud Boys and anti-fascists. Police are now looking for a dozen people who were involved. But the department is facing scrutiny for not acting sooner. The fight happened minutes after the end of an event with Gavin McInnes, the founder of the Proud Boys.

Facebook alerted law enforcement, disabled the "View As" feature, is working fixing the security problem, and reset the access tokens of 50 million accounts that were affected and another 40 million as a precaution, Rosen wrote.

Stabbing spree at nursery

A woman stabbed five people, including three baby girls, at a neighborhood nursery in Flushing, Queens, early Friday, the NYPD said. The woman then tried to end her life. One of the babies is three days old and suffered a stab wound to the stomach, another is 20 days old and suffered lacerations to the ear, chin, and lip. The third baby is one month old and suffered a stab wound to the stomach. The infants are in critical but stable condition at area hospitals.

New Jersey Transit service cuts

Relief is in sight for New Jersey Transit's beleaguered rail riders, if only in the wallet. Facing criticism over service disruptions as it seeks to meet a Dec. 31 federal safety deadline, NJ Transit said Thursday it will cut fares 10 percent for daily and monthly tickets for three months starting in November.

Opposition to LIRR fare hike

Elected officials on Long Island oppose the MTA's plan to raise Long Island Rail Road fares. They said a fare hike is unfair to riders, especially when the railroad's performance is at an all-time low over the past nearly two decades. A letter to New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli is calling for a forensic audit of the MTA or at the very least the LIRR.

Teams respond to North Carolina

Flood victims of Hurricane Florence are receiving help from the New York area. Various organizations and municipalities have been offering support to communities in the South. Members of New York Task Force 1 have been in North Carolina since last week. They rescued people in River Bend on Friday. Then Monday, the team patrolled Pollocksville, N.C., to conduct evacuations and welfare checks. The team includes NYPD, FDNY, and EMS personnel.
