Carrie Fisher: I was pressured to lose weight for new 'Star Wars'

Actress Carrie Fisher says she was pressured to lose weight for her return as former Princess Leia in the J.J. Abrams movie Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Fisher, 59, told Good Housekeeping UK that she lost 35 pounds for the role.

"They don't want to hire all of me -- only about three-quarters! Nothing changes, it's an appearance-driven thing," she said. "I'm in a business where the only thing that matters is weight and appearance. That is so messed up. They might as well say get younger, because that's how easy it is."

Fisher said she lost the weight by eating less and exercising more. She said that exercising was easier than changing what she ate because she didn't like depriving herself.

Fisher, the daughter of singer Eddie Fisher and actress Debbie Reynolds, was just 20 when the original Star Wars debuted in 1977.
