The MTA and unions representing LIRR workers are expected to return to the bargaining table as a possible strike looms. While MTA negotiators say a deal could be reached, union leaders say both sides remain far apart. A strike could impact nearly 300,000 daily riders and force the LIRR to shut down service. Officials say limited shuttle buses would run from select Long Island stations to Queens, but Gov. Kathy Hochul warned the buses would not fully replace train service and urged commuters to prepare for possible work-from-home plans next week.
