What's Aleppo? asks Libertarian party candidate Gary Johnson
NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - When asked during a morning news program on Thursday what he would do as President of the United States in Syria, specifically Aleppo, Libertarian party nominee Gary Johnson seemed confused.
"What would you do if you were elected about Aleppo?" asked MSNBC co-host Mike Barnicle.
"About? asked Johnson.
"Aleppo," said Barnicle.
"And what is Aleppo?" asked Johnson.
"You're kidding," said Barnicle.
"No," said Johnson.
"Aleppo is in Syria . It's the epicenter of the refugee crisis," said Barnicle.
"OK. Got it. With regard to Syria, I do think it is a mess," said Johnson.
The former governor of New Mexico is polling as high as 10 percent in some surveys.
In a statement issued by the Johnson campaign after the televised interview, the Libertarian acknowledged he should have known what Aleppo was: “I blanked. It happens, and it will happen again during the course of this campaign. Can I name every city in Syria? No. Should I have identified Aleppo? Yes. Do I understand its significance? Yes.”
