Arrest made in deadly NYC subway stabbing

The NYPD says it has arrested a 33-year-old homeless man in connection to the deadly stabbing of Tavon Silder on the New York City subway over the weekend. Silver had survived a separate attack on the New York City subway in 2022.

The NYPD says it has arrested a 33-year-old homeless man in connection to the deadly stabbing of Tavon Silver on the New York City subway over the weekend.

Police say the suspect, identified as Claude White, did not know Silver, but that the pair had gotten into a verbal dispute.

Investigators are not sure where the stabbing took place, but a conductor found Silver bleeding on a southbound 4 train as it came into the 14th Street Union Square station. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Just last year, Silver spoke to FOX 5 exclusively from his hospital bed after he was a victim of another subway stabbing. Silver told FOX 5 he was riding the 2 train in the Bronx with his fiancé at the time. He said a man yelled a homophobic slur before stabbing him.

Archive Exclusive: Bronx subway stabbing victim speaks out

Tavon Silver, the victim of a horrifying stabbing on a Bronx subway train, spoke exclusively to FOX 5 NY in 2022 about the attack and why he isn't going to let it change him.

Now, LeSean Griffin, Silver's former fiance says he can't believe it's happened again.

"I was devastated," Griffin told FOX 5 NY. "It was like, this just can't be real. The same situation, but this time it led to his death."

Griffin says he had warned Silver to ignore troublemakers on the train.

"It kind of showed me, you’re one of those people. So, the minute someone say something, you have to react to it? It's not like we grew up," Griffin said.

Police are continuing to search for a suspect in the stabbing, but are struggling due to not knowing if Silver was stabbed outside the train or onboard.
