The NY metro area was drying out Friday after some morning showers and more flooding a day earlier.

FOX 5 NY chief meteorologist Nick Gregory said more rain could hit the area Friday. "Some showers around to start Friday," he said, "then breezy and less humid with lots of sun."

Severe weather has hit the region in recent days, leaving the ground saturated and causing flooding in parts of southern New Jersey.

What do Flood Warning and Flash Flood Warning mean?

A warning is issued when flooding is imminent or occurring so if you are in a flood-prone area, you should immediately move to high ground. "A flash flood is a sudden violent flood that can take from minutes to hours to develop," the NWS said. "It is even possible to experience a flash flood in areas not immediately receiving rain."

What do Flood Watch and Flash Flood Watch mean?

A watch is issued when weather conditions are favorable for flooding, such as heavy rain over a short period. Flooding is possible but may not happen. "Rapidly rising flood waters may quickly inundate roadways. Streams and creeks could leave their banks, flooding nearby properties," the NWS said. "Please monitor the forecast, especially if you live in a location that is prone to flooding. Be prepared to take action if a flash flood warning is issued for your area."
