Former NY Assemblyman Vito Lopez dead

NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - Former New York State Assemblyman Vito Lopez died Monday night at the age of 74, reported the NY Post.

Lopez, who resigned from the legislature in 2013 following a sexual harassment scandal, was suffering from cancer for several years.

The Democrat passed away at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

Two staffers sued Lopez for sexual harassment. Under the settlement announced announced in Feb. 2015, Lopez was ordered to pay $35,000 to the women and their attorney while state taxpayers paid $545,000.
