You and your dog: understanding each other

Can a dog read your facial expressions? And can you read your dog's? Is it intuitive?

Well new research is taking it beyond intuition, categorizing canine facial movements so that we can get to know our best friends even better.

For decades, the full spectrum of human facial expressions has been classified through a project called the Facial Action Coding System. And for just a few years now, researchers have been doing the same thing with dogs. The scientists are now pairing the expressions with different scenarios so that we can begin to link an expression with an accurate assessment of a dog's emotional state.

A Dream Come True K9 training facility, dog behavior specialist Blake Rodriguez thinks this will be a game changer.

Maybe this gives us all hope to one day get on the level of our tail wagging companions.
