Vigil held in memory of slain police sergeant

NEW YORK (FOX 5 NEWS) - A sea of blue and candle lights lit up a brisk November night outside the 43 Precinct in the Bronx. Police officers on the job, retired from the job and those who didn't even know NYPD Sgt. Paul Tuozzolo gathered to pay him their respects.

The 19-year veteran of the force was killed after responding to a home invasion Friday. Police say Manuel Rosales shot Tuozzolo in the head and Sgt. Emmanuel Kwo in the leg. Rosales had 17 prior arrests and served three stints in prison. He was killed during the shootout.

Tuozzolo would've been eligible to retire next year. The Sergeants Benevolent Association has already raised more than $50,000 for Tuozzolo's widow and two children.

His funeral will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church in Massapequa, Long Island.
