Transformer fire in Lower Manhattan

NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - Emergency personnel were on the scene Friday of a transformer fire in the basement of the Criminal Court Building at Centre St. and White St. in Lower Manhattan.

There were no reports of injuries .

Several people were evacuated.

A stretch of Centre St. and Leonard St. remained closed.

City health officials warned people exposed to the smoke to close their windows and stay indoors.

Anyone with heart or breathing conditions such as asthma may be more sensitive and should seek immediate medical attention if they experience a worsening of their condition, shortness of breath, or chest pains.
