Suspect arrested in string of purse robberies

NEW YORK (AP) — Authorities say a Brooklyn man has been arrested in connection with a string of robberies involving women's purses. The five incidents took place in Brooklyn between Aug. 20 and Aug. 29.

Police say the suspect approached women walking on area streets in late-night hours, and showed them a gun. He then would grab their purses and flee.

In four of the incidents, the women gave over their purses when threatened. Authorities say one woman who refused was hit on the head with a gun and her bag taken.

The 29-year-old suspect faces multiple counts of robbery as well as criminal possession of a weapon.
