Oppressive heat blankets Tristate Region

A heat wave continues in parts of the New York area Thursday with temperatures hitting the 90 degree mark for a second day in a row, but New York City itself did not reach 90.

Forecasters say high temperatures on Thursday will reach near 95 degrees. Combined with the humidity, it will feel like it is 100 degrees.

Parts of the state got some brief relief from the heat from thunderstorms on Thursday afternoon.

High heat indices are dangerous to health. Strenuous activity should be avoided.

People without air conditioning, older adults, and people with chronic health conditions are most at risk.

Cooling centers will be open Thursday beginning at 8:00 AM.
