NEW YORK (AP) — A police officer has been injured while escorting Vice President Joe Biden's motorcade along a highway in New York.

Secret Service spokesman Brian Leary says the officer was taken to a nearby hospital. He says the officer's condition is unknown.

The New York Police Department motorcycle officer was injured as Biden returned to LaGuardia Airport after spending two days in the city. From the motorcade, the officer could be seen lying face down, bleeding, with other officers assisting him.

Biden's office says the vice president was briefed on the incident before taking off from LaGuardia.
