NYC to pay $225K discrimination suit
NEW YORK (AP) — A former equal employment opportunity officer has agreed to a $225,000 settlement in her racial discrimination suit against the New York City. The New York Daily News says the suit was filed by Special Hagan, 39. It alleged she was harassed for investigating allegations that Katherine Oliver fired qualified minority employees and replaced them with unqualified white applicants.
Oliver was commissioner of the Mayor's Office of Film, Theater and Broadcasting at the time of Hagan's 2010 investigation.
The suit claimed Oliver had a hand in Hagan's dismissal when Oliver began asking employees if they experienced discrimination in the workplace.
Hagan also alleged she experienced discrimination while working for the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications.
A Law Department spokesman says settling the case was in the city's best interest.
