NY Magazine site goes down after Cosby story released

Hours after it published the cover photo and article of 35 women accusing comedian Bill Cosby of sexual assault, NY Magazine went offline and the article was inaccessible until the early afternoon.

The magazine Tweeted: "Our site is experiencing technical difficulties. We are aware of the issue, and working on a fix."

But the NY Times reported Monday that the site had been hacked and taken down.

Reported hacker @Vikingdom2016 Tweeted: "Nymag.com  will be down for hours.... :D ENJOY"

At about 11 a.m., the hacker claimed to have wiped out NY Magazine's database. The Tweet reads in part: "Good News! XML Just broke NYMag.com which means the site doesn't exist . THEIR DATABASE IS GONE :D"

It is not clear why the hacker could be targeting NY Magazine.

The magazine began posting the audio of some of its interviews to Instagram and shared the links via Twitter.
