Nursing home evacuated due to broken AC
NEW JERSEY (FOX5NY.COM) - In the middle of the heat wave, a nursing home in Englewood, New Jersey, was evacuated when the air conditioner went out.
"An air conditioner at Inglemoor Center has malfunctioned. Due to the hot temperatures and in an abundance of caution, we have decided to relocate all of the patients and residents to our other area skilled nursing centers," spokesperson Christine Emrick said in an email.
The nursing home's 50 residents were relocated. The staff notified family members when their loved ones were safely settled, Emrick said.
"Englewood Firefighters are currently assisting EMS with an evacuation of a nursing home," the Englewood Fire Department tweeted. "Approximately 50 people are being evacuated due to an HVAC issue in the facility."
Regina Goodridge, a dietary aide at the facility, had the day off but rushed to check on her patients when she heard the news.
"I'm glad to hear that they're okay and that they moved them out so they can get better," she said.
Other members of the clinical staff went with the residents to their new locations.
Technicians were working on the air conditioning Monday night. The residents will return home as soon as it is fixed, the spokesperson said.
