A man was killed in an apparent hit-and-run while he was cleaning snow off his car in New Jersey on Monday, according to the Paterson Police Department.

What happened?

What we know:

The hit-and-run happened at approximately 8:45 a.m., when a 59-year-old man was struck by a car that kept driving away near 135 Alabama Avenue in Paterson, police said.

Police said the man was cleaning snow off of his car when he was struck. 

The man was taken to St. Joseph's University Hospital and was later pronounced dead. 

The Paterson Police Department Traffic Unit is investigating.

No arrests have been made.

What we don't know:

The motive behind the hit-and-run is unclear.

The name of the 59-year-old man has not been released.
