Bloody fight in subway station

NEW YORK - The NYPD has released extraordinary security camera video footage showing two men fighting with weapons inside a subway station on Memorial Day. The fight ended with one man repeatedly stabbing the other man with that man's own knife, police said.
The violent melee unfolded inside the 125th Street and Lenox Avenue Station in Harlem on the Nos. 2 and 3 lines just before 6 a.m., police said.
A 51-year-old man and an unidentified man got into a "verbal dispute" near the MetroCard kiosks, authorities said. The video shows the two men shuffling back and forth and lunging at each other while holding some sort of weapons. Police said one man had "two metal objects" while the 51-year-old man had two knives.

"The unidentified male struck the victim, slammed him to the ground, gained control of one of the knives, and stabbed the victim multiple times to his back," police said.
That man then went up the stairs and took off on foot, police said.

The wounded man was treated at Harlem Hospital and was listed in stable condition, the NYPD said.

Victim stabbed in chest and neck
A 51-year-old man was stabbed in the neck and chest inside the 125th Street subway station in Harlem.
It's not the first violent act inside the 125th Street Station this year.
In February, a man in his 20s punched a 68-year-old woman on the northbound platform of the A at the 125th Street station in Harlem. He then ran away.
Subway crimes have been a serious concern for straphangers and the MTA during the pandemic. The NYPD said as of early May, 300 felony assaults were reported in the subway system. The union says that is up 44 percent compared to three years ago.

The NYPD is blaming bail reform for a spate of assaults in the subways. The MTA is asking for more cops and mental health programs. The mayor says overall crime is down.
