Leaks at Hudson Yards subway station raise questions

NEW YORK (FOX 5 NEWS) - The 34 St-Hudson Yards No. 7 line subway station is steps away from the Javits Center, and so new and clean you almost feel like you're in Toronto. Riders give it rave reviews.

But the $2.4 billion project has been plagued by issues like leaks and escalator mechanical problems since it opened late last August. Regular riders are losing patience.

Questions are being raised about the firm Yonkers Contractors and subcontractors responsible for waterproofing the facility. The MTA says it has begun remedial repairs. The work is done at night, and is expected to take 8 to 12 weeks.

Yonkers Contractors did not respond to our request for information on a repair timetable.

The MTA said its chairman ordered an independent engineer to do a complete review of the station. Once that's done, the MTA board will get the findings.
