Knife turned into police allegedly found on O.J. Simpson estate

A knife has been turned into the Los Angeles Police Department that was allegedly found buried on the former estate of football legend and one-time murder suspect O.J. Simpson.

Speaking to reporters Friday, an LAPD official announced that a folding buck knife was allegedly discovered by a construction worker on the perimeter of the property in Brentwood while he was demolishing the house as early as 1998.

The worker allegedly gave the knife to an off-duty traffic officer who was patrolling the area while working security for a movie shoot. The officer never turned the knife in to authorities.

The LAPD is asking that if the construction worker is still out there, that he contact them as part of their investigation of the knife.

The police officer who allegedly kept the knife retired earlier this year. He told a friend at the LAPD about the knife who in turn told his superiors. Within the last month, the LAPD demanded the retired officer hand over the knife.

The LAPD says it is testing the knife for hair and fingerprints.

Celebrity gossip website TMZ.com broke the story Friday.

Simpson was found not guilty in the 1994 murders of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend, Ronald Goldman.

The murder weapon was never discovered.

If police were to find a connection between the knife and O.J. Simpson, he could not be prosecuted again in the murder case due to double jeopardy laws.
