Jersey City to implode 3 buildings

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) — Jersey City is going to implode three buildings at a former public housing site to make way for a mixed income, affordable senior housing community.

The implosion at Montgomery Gardens will take place at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Streets around the area will be closed from 6 a.m. until noon.

Residents in the two-block exclusion zone around Montgomery Gardens should also keep their home windows closed before and during the implosion. The city will monitor air quality after the implosion as the dust settles to determine when roads can be opened.

There is a viewing area at the corner of Fremont and Bright streets for those who want to view the implosion.
