Inmates treated for apparent overdose

VALHALLA, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say four more inmates at a county jail had to be hospitalized after showing signs of drug overdoses.

That's after six inmates needed medical care the day before.

Westchester County police spokesman Kieran O'Leary says the four inmates who got sick Monday have been taken to Westchester Medical Center.

The first six inmates were taken to hospitals Sunday but were back behind bars on Monday.

Police say two of the six inmates have been accused of promoting contraband in connection with the case.

Police say Deron Strange, who was in jail on an assault charge, had the remains of a hand-rolled cigarette. They say James Graziano, being held on a parole violation, had a plastic bottle that was altered into a pipe.

Calls to Legal Aid were not returned.
