Fetty Wap drops mixtape in hometown of Paterson
NEW JERSEY (FOX5NY.COM) - Thursday, June 7, was a big day in Paterson. It was hip-hop superstar Fetty Wap's birthday and we were right at the spot where it all started. He dropped his new mixtape and gave it out for free to his fans, the kids, and the community.
We were the only news crew on hand as Fetty shared his success and inspired his hometown. He told me being on the streets in person is what counts.
Fetty became the first hip-hop artist in 26 years to simultaneously have four singles in the Billboard Top 10 Rap Chart. It's obvious as he spends hours with his fans that the connection is authentic.
So why is the new mixtape called "Bruce Wayne"? Fetty said it was his way to show some love for the character Batman, the only superhero without special powers. He uses his money to make a difference.
We visited the church that once belonged to Fetty's grandfather Bishop Willie Lee Maxwell. Fetty credits him with instilling in him the sense of giving back to the community and always caring about others.
The cover art for his mixtape features the headstones of his two grandfathers. He said they made sure that he would do something good with his life.
You can be sure this won't be the last time that Fetty Wap comes back to the city where it all started for him he told me he can never forget the kids and that he is already planning what he's going to do for them next.
