Deported New York City rapist found in Arizona

NEW YORK CITY (FOX5NY) - A deported rapist who was convicted for a Staten Island sex attack was arrested after slipping back into the United States.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection department says border patrol agents caught Anthony Diaz-Garcia, 30, west of Nogales, Arizona.

The previously-deported convicted sex offender from Mexico was convicted of rape and served six months in prison before being deported.

Diaz will remain in federal custody to face charges for re-entering the U.S. as an aggravated felon.

Federal officials say all persons apprehended by the Border Patrol undergo criminal history checks using biometrics to ensure illegal immigrants with criminal histories are positively identified.
