Dead great white shark found on beach in Cape Cod

A great white shark that washed up on a Cape Cod beach had lead inside its belly.

The 9-foot-long male shark was found dead Thursday morning on a beach in Truro, according to the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy.

Scientists from the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration were alerted.

Dr. Lisa Natanson of NOAA came to the beach to perform a necropsy on the shark and take samples of its tissue. She found three lead weights in its stomach, according to the conservancy.

Several shark sightings have been reported off Massachusetts this summer.

A shark bit William Lytton, 61, of New York, while he was swimming off Truro. He suffered deep puncture wounds to his leg and torso.
