COPY-Twitter verse: NYC holds Twitter poetry contest

NEW YORK (AP) - New York City is calling all 140-character poets.

The city's PoetweetNYC contest opened Monday, inviting people around the country to tweet their verse for a chance to have it published. The winning entry will appear April 30 in Metro, a local newspaper.

All it takes to submit is to post a single-tweet poem with the hashtag PoetweetNYC by 5 p.m. April 13. The rules are on the city's website.

The city has held the contest for several years. The contest predates Mayor Bill de Blasio's administration, but it has a big fan in first lady Chirlane McCray. She's a poet herself.

The competition honors National Poetry Month.
