Coast Guard searching for plane after losing contact

The Coast Guard is searching for a plane after they lost contact with the pilot flying from Oklahoma City to San Antonio.

According to the FAA, a small plane filed a flight plan to San Antonio but did not land and continued toward the Gulf of Mexico and was unresponsive to air traffic control instructions.

The FAA released this statement:

A Cirrus S22T left Wiley Post Airport in Oklahoma City this afternoon and the pilot filed a flight plan to San Antonio. The pilot did not land in San Antonio, continued on the same course and was unresponsive to air traffic control instructions. The aircraft was last observed on radar about 219 miles northwest of Cancun at 15,000 ft. and was headed into the Gulf of Mexico.

Coast Guard is searching the area in an attempt to re-establish communications with the plane. A C-130 from Air Station Clearwater was dispatched to assist in the search.

Coast Guard officials said they lost contact after the plane flew past Freeport. Coast Guard officials now believe that the pilot aboard was unconscious and unresponsive. T
