Bill would let drivers use pre-treatment photos on licenses

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — New Jersey residents undergoing medical care for an illness that changes their appearance could extend the use of pre-treatment photos on their driver's licenses under a bill lawmakers are considering.

The Assembly transportation committee approved the measure on Monday.

The bill comes after the story of Neptune City resident Joanne Jodry came to light in October. The state Motor Vehicle Commission would not let Jodry, who lost her hair after undergoing chemotherapy, use an old driver's license photo showing her with long hair.

Jodry was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer in April.

An MVC spokeswoman in October said the agency was bound to comply with state law, which requires a new picture every eight years.
