All clear at Long Island beach after shark sighting

Authorities gave the all-clear to beachgoers at Tobay Beach after a shark sighting prompted an evacuation around noon, Town of Oyster Bay spokeswoman Marta Kane said.

Lifeguards on the east end of blew the whistle and everybody was got out of the water onto the sand.

About 2,000 people were at the beach at the time.

Nassau County police went out in a helicopter. Police aviators spotted two six-foot-long sharks about 15 feet from the shoreline, police said. The sharks were swim toward Gilgo Beach in Suffolk County

The all-clear was issued about two hours later.
