Adelphi lacrosse team runs out to Trump speech

Instead of "Eye of the Tiger" or the "Rocky" theme, a college sports team on Long Island chose to run out on the field to the words of Donald Trump.

Video posted on social media and viewed by more than half a million people shows Adelphi University lacrosse players running onto the field before a game while a Trump campaign speech remixed with music boomed from the loudspeakers at the Panthers' Garden City facility. One player ran out carrying an American flag.

These words from Trump can be heard on the video: "In all of our cities and in all of our towns, I make this promise: We will make America strong again. We will make America proud again. We will make America safe again. And we will make America great again. God bless you and good night. I love you."

Head coach Gordon Purdie said in a statement: "The men's lacrosse team has traditionally chosen patriotic music for its pre-game warm-up. It was not intended to provoke or be taken as a political statement. We're sorry if anyone was offended."

Director of Athletics Danny McCabe said the team picked Trump's speech and that the university approved it because it does not contain vulgarity or inappropriate subject matter. So, for now, the university will continue to allow it this season.
