3-year-old twin brothers both drown in swimming pool

A South Carolina cookout turned into a tragedy this weekend after young twin brothers sneaked away and somehow drowned in a swimming pool.

Caleb and Ezekiel Marcengill were discovered floating in a pool in Easley after 2 p.m. on Saturday.

According to the Anderson County Sheriff's Office, the boys managed to crawl under a fence and get to the pool after sneaking away from the barbecue their family was attending.

When they were finally found, authorities believe the boys had been in the water about 15 minutes.

Family desperately tried to perform CPR on both boys when first responders arrived, the sheriff's office said.

The boys were taken to an area hospital where Caleb was pronounced dead.

Ezekiel arrived in critical condition, but died Sunday afternoon.

The case has been ruled as accidental by the county coroner and sheriff's office.

A GoFundMe page has been created to support the twins' parents, Brandon and Dawn Marcengill.

On the page, Crystal Gibson writes: "The family rejoices at the gift of the lives of these two boys for their three short years and at the thought of them skipping together down streets of gold in Heaven, even as they break at the loss of them."

The campaign had raised more than $7,000 by Monday afternoon.
