Snow cancels vaccine appointments in some NJ counties

Snow caused slick roads and major travel concerns in New Jersey on Thursday, as a number of COVID vaccine mega-sites in the state had to shut down early due to the winter storm.

NEW JERSEY - A winter storm bringing snow, ice and rain across New Jersey led officials on Thursday to shutter at least three of the state's mass COVID-19 vaccination sites.

The so-called megasites at the Moorestown Mall in Burlington County, the NJ Exposition Center in Middlesex County and Rockaway Townsquare Mall in Morris County were closed. Anyone with an appointment at those sites will need reschedule for later this week, said Gov. Phil Murphy.

The site in Bergen County is set to close later Thursday morning. The sites in Atlantic and Gloucester counties, where officials said it was raining, remained open.

Due to the snow storm, three COVID vaccine sites will be closed in NJ on Thursday.

Murphy also ordered state government offices to close except for essential workers, put in place a commercial vehicle restriction on the state's highways and asked residents to stay home.

The storm brought snow to the northern part of the state and rain to the south. It was expected to end by Friday.

Transportation Commissioner Diane Gutierrez-Scaccetti asked residents to stay off the roads if they can.

"Watch a good movie," she said. "'Frozen' is always a good choice."

Meteorologist Mike Woods says the heaviest snow bands are currently around Monmouth , Mercer, Somerset, Warren and Morris counties in NJ. Snow fall is moderate in NYC.
