Two workers were rescued from a malfunctioning platform on a luxury high-rise more than 40 stories above lower Manhattan.

The New York Fire Department said no one was injured in the mishap Friday morning at a building under construction at 111 Murray Street, about 10 blocks from the World Trade Center.

The workers were harnessed in a crate when the wind blew and flipped it around, shattering windows, said fire officials. A pedestrian below was injured by falling glass. The building sustained some damage.

New York Police Department Special Operations Chief Harry Wedin tweeted that the device was around the 40th floor.

The FDNY said firefighters helped the workers off the platform and pulled them through a window on the 45th foor. The platform was secured.

The building's website said the 64-story building will feature glass-walled apartments priced at up to $40 million.

Several streets were closed in the lower west side of Manhattan as emergency personnel responded to the scene.
