Dangerous cold grips New York, New Jersey and Connecticut this weekend as snow threat fades
Arctic air keeps a tight hold on the tri-state, with wind chills dropping to near zero and below across the region. A cold weather advisory remains in effect through the morning as temperatures struggle to climb out of the teens. Forecasters say a potential coastal storm is tracking far enough south to spare most of the area from significant snow, though a few flurries are possible out east. The bitter cold is also affecting the morning commute. Multiple crashes, disabled vehicles and a jackknifed tractor-trailer are causing delays on major roadways, including the New Jersey Turnpike, Belt Parkway and Gowanus Expressway. Rail commuters are seeing cancellations and delays on parts of the Long Island Rail Road and New Jersey Transit.
