Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman got a break from solitary confinement with a court appearance in his drug kingpin case. The hearing was about whether his private attorneys would be able to keep their fees, regardless of the outcome of the trial. If El Chapo is convicted, the government can seize his estimated $14 billion fortune, leaving the lawyers unpaid.
