Newark student-athlete signs with Stanford University

Shabazz High School senior Zayden McDonald is officially headed to Stanford University. The standout defensive back — praised for his work on the field, in the classroom, and in the community — grew emotional as he thanked his parents and teachers while signing his letter of intent. McDonald is now the second student from Malcolm X Shabazz to earn a spot at Stanford in two years. His team played in the state championship last night but fell to Camden High School, 27–8.
