Professor implores students to help fire victims

A photography professor at California State University- Chico wrote a letter to his students calling on them to forget classwork and assignments and instead help the victims of the deadly wildfires ripping through California.

Celebrities whose coastal homes have been damaged or destroyed in a Southern California wildfire or were forced to flee from the flames expressed sympathy and solidarity with less-famous people hurt worse by the state's deadly blazes, and gave their gratitude to firefighters who kept them safe.

MALIBU, Calif. (AP) -- Strong Santa Ana winds returned to Southern California on Sunday, causing flare-ups of a huge wildfire that has scorched a string of communities west of Los Angeles, but no additional structures were believed to have been lost, authorities said.

Woolsey Fire burns 83,275 acres, 10 percent contained

The Woolsey Fire, pushed by strong Santa Ana winds, burned 83,275 acres and is ten percent contained as of Sunday as it burned through Los Angeles and Ventura counties.

Hill Fire holding at 4,500 acres, 25% contained

The Hill Fire, which broke out Thursday afternoon northwest of Thousand Oaks, was holding at about 4,500 acres and was 25 percent contained as of Saturday, officials said.

Camp Fire now most destructive wildfire in California history; 9 dead

The Butte County Sheriff's Coroner confirmed nine fatalities stemming from the 90,000 acre Camp Fire that began early Thursday morning just east of the town of Paradise, California.
