Members of Punxsutawney Phil's inner circle revealed spring is coming early.

A signficiant warm-up was expected for New York City and the surrounding region after the coldest temperatures of the season just days earlier.

Following a winter storm earlier in the week and snow squalls on Wednesday, dangerously cold weather blanketed the region Thursday. Highs were in the single digits but the real feel temperature was around -20 degrees.

A fire continued to burn Thursday at the Marcal paper mill in New Jersey hours after an inferno broke out amid frigid temperatures.

As the polar vortex is warping parts of the Midwest, a frozen wonderland was created before the phenomenon. 

A painfully cold weather system put much of the Midwest into a historic deep freeze. The affects could be seen in a frozen over Lake Michigan. 

Two children were taken to a hospital for cold-related injuries after they were found walking around outside alone Wednesday afternoon in unincorporated northwest suburban Arlington Heights.

An 82-year-old central Illinois man has died in the cold weather after authorities say he was found several hours after he fell trying to get into his home.

As the polar vortex blankets the Chicago area with life-threatening cold temperatures this week, rail crews are literally turning up the heat in order to keep trains running.
