World Health Organization: Video gaming can become an addiction

The World Health Organization has issued a serious warning about people who spend a lot of time playing video games. The WHO plans to include gaming disorder in its diagnostic manual, the International Classification of Diseases, in 2018.

What are the warning signs? Dr. Alexandra Stratyner, a psychologist, says the warning signs could be similar to someone with a gambling disorder or other addictions: the inability to control when and how to play games and choosing gaming over other responsibilities in life.

Treatment is not so simple, but Stratyner said that treatments used for gambling addiction and substance abuse probably can work for gaming addiction.
