Woman busted with cardboard license plate on car

A woman in western New York thought she could pull a fast one on police when she created a cardboard license plate and placed it on her vehicle.

The Erie County Sheriff's Office posted photos of the fake plate on its Facebook page with the caption: "In case you are wondering, homemade cardboard license plates are NOT legal."

According to police, Amanda Schweickert, 28, of Sardinia, was pulled over and arrested Wednesday after a deputy noticed the vehicle did not have a front license plate.

The vehicle's rear plate was actually a piece of cardboard painted to resemble the yellow and blue New York license plate.

The phony plate had the words "New York" written on top and "Empire State" on the bottom.

Schweickert faces charges of possessing a forged instrument and operating a vehicle with a suspended registration.

She was reportedly being held on $400 bail.
