Watchung, NJ, bans sale of baby crib bumpers

If you shop in Watchung, New Jersey, you will no longer be able to buy crib baby bumpers at any store in town. The borough council passed a new ordinance banning the sale of any type of crib baby bumpers,

The ban affects 12 stores including Walmart, Target and Babies R Us. If retailers don't abide by the ban, they could be fined up to $2,500 per sale.

Watchung is not the first community to ban baby bumpers.

Dr. Daniel Herman, a Pediatrician with Summit Medical Group, tells his patients to not use baby bumpers because of the risk to the baby.

We contacted Walmart, Target and Babies R Us. Babies R Us says it will abide by the ban.

Target says it is waiting to get a look at the ordinance.

Walmart has not responded.
