Trump tops GOP poll, Carson 2nd

The first national poll since the Republican presidential debate shows an increase in support for front-runner Donald Trump and neurosurgeon Ben Carson. Trump, a real-estate mogul, leads with 30-percent, up four percentage points from August. Carson jumped 13 points to 18-percent moving him into second place. The poll was conducted by Monmouth University.

Jeb Bush slipped into third place with 8 percentage points, down by 4 points. He is now in a tie for third with Ted Cruz. 

Following behind are Marco Rubio with five percent, Carly Fiorina with four-percent, and Mike Huckabee with four-percent.

Scott Walker (3%), who held third place in Monmouth’s August poll, dropped eight points.

Chris Christie, John Kasich, and Rand Paul each got two percent. The remaining six candidates included in
the poll scored no higher than one percentage point each.
