Trump to North Korea: You will 'regret' threat to Guam

President Donald Trump on Friday said the United States is "locked and loaded" and retweeted images from U.S. Pacific Command showing B-1B Lancer bombers on Guam, the island territory in the Pacific Ocean that has been the target of threats by North Korea.

Pentagon officials confirmed the U.S. military stands ready to "fight tonight" on the Korean Peninsula, Fox News reported.

But the North Korean state news agency warned that "even a single shell dropped on the Korean Peninsula might lead to the outbreak of … thermonuclear war."

Diplomats from both countries discussing deteriorating relations and heightened fears of military confrontation, the AP reported.

"If [Kim Jong-un] does anything in respect to Guam or any place else that's an American territory or an American ally, he will truly regret it," Trump said Friday.

U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley was scheduled to brief the president on the latest diplomatic efforts that come on the heels of new U.N.-imposed sanctions against North Korea last weekend.

Guam is a U.S. territory with a population of 160,000 people and is home to a pair of important American military bases.
