Sex crimes in the subways are up nearly 50 percent, according to new findings released by the NYPD.

But according to the department, there are not more crimes occurring but more crimes reported than ever before.

Forcible touching and unlawful surveillance are among the crimes classified as 'sex crimes.'

From January to May, there were 131 recorded instances of sex crimes. That's 156 more than same time last year.

72 more arrests were made over the past several months and that figure will rise when June's numbers are factored in.
