Police believe body found, woman dead in hospital is missing couple

Police in the Dominican Republic believe a body pulled from the ocean and a woman who died at a local hospital are a missing couple from Mount Vernon.

Orlando Moore, 40, and his girlfriend Portia Ravenelle, 52, were due back home on Mar. 27 after a four-day vacation in the resort town of Samana, but never returned.

The body of a man pulled from the Caribbean Ocean on Mar. 31 had a tattoo of the word 'Milano' which matches one on Orlando Moore, 40, according to national police.

A woman who died at the Doctor Dario Contreras Hospital on Apr. 4 is believed to be Ravenelle. On Wednesay, hosptial officials confirmed that fingerprints sent to the U.S. for analysis matched those of Ravanelle, reported Diario Libre.

Police said the couple were likely involved in a car accident during the early morning hours of Mar. 27 on their way to the Aeropuerto Internacional de Las Américas José Francisco Peña Gómez

The couple were reportedly last seen driving through a toll booth at about 1:41 a.m. Their flight was due to depart about ten minutes earlier, reported Diario Libre.

Hospital officials said the body of a woman was brought in after she was found on the same road where the car apparently veered off into the ocean.

Fishermen discovered the car days later.
