NEW YORK (FOX5NY) - Reality TV star Mike 'The Situation' Sorrentino says he and his fiance plan to go ahead with their wedding plans despite Sorrentino's anticipated sentencing for tax evasion on Oct. 5.
The member of MTV's hit 'Jersey Shore' series in the early 2000s, and the latest series, 'Jersey Shore: Family Vacation,' is set to get married to longtime girlfriend Lauren Pesce in the weeks after the sentencing date.
"We are praying for a positive result on that day," said Sorrentino, 36, in a live interview on Fox 5's Good Day New York. "I'm not going to know until that day but I live my life one day at a time and I try to be the better version of myself. For today, I am ceasing the day and on that particular day I will hold my head high and hope to put that behind me."
Sorrentino faces up to five years behind bars for aiding in the preparation of a false and fraudulent tax return. He is seeking probation while prosecutors want a sentence of 14 months.
Generally, a defendant is given a period of up to 60 days to surrender to begin serving time if there is no flight risk or other circumstances. That would give the couple time to marry.
His brother, Marc Sorrentino, also faces prison time for his admitted involvement.
Sorrentino and other members of the cast of Jersey Shore Family Vacation appeared on the New York City morning show to promote season 2 of the MTV show. Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi, Vinny Guadagnino, and Angelina Pivarnick also appeared. Pivarnick was late to the set because of traffic.
